Again, another “working year” is coming to a close and the summer holiday is not far-off.
It has been a year in which our society was again heavily tested by unacceptable attacks and unseen criminality but also a year in which people drew much courage from processing these injustices together.
Both as CEO of SERIS and as chairman of the BVBO, the Belgian professional association of security companies, I have closely followed the security news and was involved in many decisions and reforms to make our society safer.
A regrettable and in my opinion also wrong conclusion is that these appalling events have caused "a clash" between the various religious beliefs. Nothing could be further from the truth, these are ordinary criminals who wish to disrupt our society and use religion as an excuse. Many authorities are pulling all stocks to put an end to this period of terror and, obviously, this remains a permanent challenge.
Caution yes, fear no.
On the eve of the summer holiday, when families and friends enjoy a well-deserved period of rest and relaxation after a year of hard work, we should not get fear get the better of us. Of course, we must keep track of the developments and respect the measures taken to secure festivals, holiday destinations and summer events, but we must above all enjoy ourselves.
History has told us that the good always survives the bad and that we should never give up hope.
So, on behalf of the whole SERIS team, I wish you a safe and, above all, relaxing and pleasant holiday.
CEO SERIS Belgium & Netherlands
