Day of the Security Guard
Last September, we celebrated the “Day of the Security Guard”. Just like a dozen other managers, CEO Danny Vandormael and SERIS Academy Course Coordinator Tom De Bruyne paid a visit to several sites.
“For me, the Day of the Security Guard is quite symbolic. It might as well be the year of the guard, which should then be celebrated every year. Our people deserve continuous respect for the task they perform, often in not so easy circumstances while a potential danger is always lurking”. That is why I decided to take a field trip with our Academy”, says Danny Vandormael.
For SERIS Academy too, these moments are valuable and informative.
“Our SERIC Academy’s main goal is to inform everyone as professionally and practice-oriented as possible with respect for legislation. We invest daily in the best monitors and teachers, constantly assess our teaching methods and try to be as innovative as we can. But how useful is all this on the field? In this respect, the Academy can learn at least as much from our colleagues in the field as vice versa. That is why this day was not only interesting, but also necessary to keep in touch with reality and maintain the feeling with the field”, continues Tom De Bruyne.
Optimal cooperation yields optimal results.
“Within SERIS, we strive to ensure that our divisions work together optimally. This is the only way to achieve the best result, especially when we combine theory and practice. Our guards are, on the one hand, our ambassadors but on the other hand, they are in the ideal position to give the best and most relevant feedback to employees of Academy. The social security climate is changing so rapidly nowadays that constant updating of our training courses is essential. In that light, we can rely on a top team in our Academy that heavily invests in this”, according to Vandormael.
Shared knowledge.
“For me, the purpose of this opportunity was twofold. On the one hand, I wanted to inform our fellow guards why we give certain courses in a certain way and explain the objectives and philosophy of our Academy. On the other hand, I wanted to know to what extent the objectives of our Academy match and are fit-for-purpose on the field. This indeed brought our team quite some useful information. As an Academy, we must take into account the information of our guards who provide us with the necessary information to prepare our school for the future on an organisational, educational and substantive level and thus optimally prepare the guards for their socially important tasks”, says De Bruyne.
Pride and loyalty.
This day soon made both gentlemen aware that the SERIS guards deserve a lot of respect and radiate class. Their pride for the uniform and their assignment was very striking. The enthusiasm and the positive critical view with which they perform their assignment also demands quite some respect.
“Our work is not finished yet, we must cherish the experience and the talents of our guards and deploy these as well as possible!”, concludes Tom De Bruyne.
